I suffer from a herniated disc located at L5/S1.

This was combined with a bilateral sciatica resulting from the disc bulge, partial nerves denervation and a facet joint effusion.

The herniated disc and sciatica pain restricted my life choices.

Emotionally it was really difficult as I couldn’t participate in all activities that I would have liked to and I found some social situations difficult to take part in.

I trained with other personal trainers in London before and I visited physios and massage therapists but, only got temporary benefits sometimes lasting one day or just a few days.

My life was very restricted.

I could not sit for long periods of time without back pain.

I could not do lunges without back pain.

I was never able to do a full body push up or alternate plank before training with Jazz.

Unfortunately I reached a point where I could never trust another trainer when they said that the exercises they had designed for me wouldn’t cause any back pain or sciatica because, it usually did result in sciatica pain and painful flare ups.

I searched online trying to find a solution.

I found Jazz Alessi’s website by Googling ‘personal training for back rehabilitation in London’.

His website indicated that he has significant experience in training people with a back injury.

Jazz replied to me immediately and also agreed to meet me at a location convenient to me which many people do not offer such a premium service.

He proceeded with an advanced assessment asking very specific questions I was never asked.

Then, he designed a progressive back rehabilitation and fitness programme tailored to my herniated disc, back pain and sciatica flare ups.

Before I began training with Jazz I was experiencing lower back pain and also discomfort from my facet joint effusion on a regular basis.

I was not able to move freely or perform any twisting movements at all.

I was very restricted in any exercise activity and it seemed as though everything I used to do made my sciatica worse.

I had limited range of movement and flexibility in both the upper and lower back.

Whilst other personal trainers have tried to work around my back injury, none have been successful at giving me exercises that do not cause back pain.

Jazz is the first personal trainer that has been able to do this through his understanding of the spine, back and innovative exercises.

He has demonstrated expert understanding and specific knowledge regarding herniated discs and sciatica.

I found Jazz to be very supportive and always motivating me to achieve my best safely.

I also found him to be very supportive at times when I had an injury flare-up.

After 8 months of training this lower back pain is a rare occurrence and also importantly my back and core feel stronger, and I am able to move more freely.

My strength has increased significantly.

I enjoyed push-ups the most as this was something I was never able to achieve before with my back injury.

For example I went from not being able to do any push ups, to complete 22 – 24 push ups in a row!!

Jazz has shown me how to train safely during a flare up so that I can maintain strength.

I noticed a considerable increase in strength from completing push-ups which transferred across to day to day activities.

The customised programme Jazz designed for me made a massive difference.

I can now lift things easily and my core feels so much stronger.

Before the exercises we did together and since my injury, I had not done a sit up.

I was told it was too dangerous and my core was not strong enough.

Now, I can sit up without using my arms to assist!

The range of movement and flexibility in both the upper and lower back have both improved considerably and some of the function I had lost has been restored.

I’ve noticed that the exercises we were performing on the upper body have changed the structure of my upper back and scapula.

I’ve never been given exercises before that work both the upper and lower back together so effectively.

In my personal experience Jazz provides rehab exercises more effective than any physio.

If you are looking for a personal trainer for back rehabilitation and you live in London, I would recommend Jazz for the following reasons:

  1. Significant experience in training people with lower and upper back injury
  2. Very well trained in injury rehabilitation and evidently has a lot of unique expertise
  3. Tailors the program specifically and asks good questions to enable this
  4. Effective exercises to increase strength and reduce pain
  5. Supportive at all times
  6. Excellent ability to adapt exercises depending on injury
  7. Trains the body in balance and effectively
  8. Each training session is tailored to the client and you never feel rushed to finish the session so that he can get to the next client

Jazz has a very focused and structured approach which allows for both maximum results and minimal chance of flare-ups or lower back pain, and his ‘consolidate and build’ approach is very rare in personal trainers!
