Know about Body Detoxification, Its Procedures and Benefits

Did you know that 60% of related factors to an individual health and overall quality of life are correlated to your lifestyle[i]?

Modern lifestyle, especially in a big city like London, tends to be stressful and it is needless to mention millions of people might have either unaligned or poor habits.

WHAT IS BODY DETOXIFICATION

Constant exposure to toxins and chemicals from the environment, lack of physical activity, consumption of junk food and sugar-laden products contribute to the build-up of toxins in a person’s body.

The accumulation of toxins increases one’s risk of a number of health conditions, thus emphasising the importance of body detoxification.

Although detox is a popular term, it tends to be largely misunderstood which is why I am going to provide a useful rundown of the process and its advantages.

WHAT IS BODY DETOXIFICATION?

It is the process wherein toxins and other unwanted materials are neutralised, transformed, and eliminated. The body performs its own detox, but sometimes it needs your help.

In fact, the primary purpose of customised detoxification is to support the efficacy of organs that perform this process and ensure they work properly.

History of body detoxification

History of body detoxification

Although the term body detoxification makes us think it is a modern practice, the reality is much different. Detox as a form of alternative medicine has been around for centuries.

For example, women from ancient Egypt, India, and other cultures used plants like fenugreek[ii] to expel toxins from their bodies.

Ayurvedic medicine, one of the oldest holistic healing systems, also included a practice called Panchakarma (pancha = five, karma = treatment).

The term refers to the five procedures of internal purification of the body through the nearest route.

The purification allows the biological system to establish homeostasis and rejuvenate rapidly[iii].

It is in human nature to look for different ways to feel better and improve their health and overall lifestyle.

That is why people have been trying out different detox methods throughout the history.

A great advantage of the modern era is that you can expel toxins just by following a customised detoxification programme.

VARIOUS PROCEDURES OF BODY DETOXIFICATION

I know, you are tired of empty promises and solutions that don’t work. You are probably swamped by all sorts of articles and products that promise miraculous results made by people claiming they are fitness experts without any certification and they use a generic approach instead of a specifically created programme.

When adequately performed, detox can indeed change your life.

Trained professional chooses the right procedure based on your health status, needs, preferences, lifestyle, and other parameters.

Sugar detox

A well-structured sugar detox plan can make it significantly easier for you to slim down, manage diabetes, and have a healthier life.

This form of detox is necessary primarily because most children and adults in the UK eat too much sugar, according to the NHS[iv].

Moreover, consumption of added sugar is strongly associated with the development and/or prevalence of fatty liver, dyslipidemia (abnormal amount of lipids in the blood), insulin resistance, hyperuricemia (excess of uric acid in the blood), cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity[v].

One study of overweight and obese children discovered that sugar is, indeed, toxic. Scientists discovered that reduced intake of sugar also decreased overall calorie intake and children experienced improvements in all measures[vi]including weight and insulin sensitivity.

The reason why many scientists believe sugar is “toxic” could be down to the fact that many people who want to reduce intake of carbs or fat increase sugar consumption.

Smoothie cleanse

Smoothies are thick beverages made of raw fruits and vegetables without added sugar and ingredients that enhance the flavour.

Of course, the not so healthy versions of smoothies are available in stores or coffee shops, but they only increase the intake of calories without providing nutrients your body can use.

Smoothie cleanse is pretty self-explanatory, it refers to the usage of smoothies to detox and expels toxins that accumulated due to sugar, caffeine, and processed foods.

These beverages usually feature kale, spinach, and other leafy green vegetables that deliver a plethora of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to the body while improving digestion.

Fruit smoothies usually contain berries, bananas, citrus fruits, and other types of fruits that deliver natural sweetness but without increasing your risk of health problems.

Plus, produce is also abundant in enzymes that aid detox and since fruits and vegetables are an abundant source of fibre, these smoothies suppress your appetite and help you feel full for longer[vii].

Chelation process

Chelation process is an important segment of a personalised detox programme and it has a tremendous potential to support your health and wellbeing.

The term chelation refers to an alternative medicine method whose purpose is the removal of heavy metals and toxins from the body.

The therapy was developed in the 1950s and science supports its benefits.

For instance, a study from JAMA found that chelation therapy reduced the risk of cardiovascular outcomes in participants who received the solution compared to placebo[viii].

The chelation process involves a chemical solution called ethylenediaminetetracetic acid or EDTA for short.

The solution is administered into the body so it can bind with excess minerals.

When EDTA binds to toxins in the body it proceeds to expel heavy metals and toxins from the system.

Chelating agents have specific bonds that form between metals or toxins and organic molecules.

As a result, they can bind to these harmful compounds that accumulate in your blood vessels and organs.

Hypoallergenic detox

The primary goal of the hypoallergenic detox diet is targeting food sensitivities and allergies.

Throughout my career, I’ve met a number of clients who experienced food sensitivities without even realising it. I cannot blame them because symptoms of food sensitivities are similar to those of other health issues.

They include bloating, migraines, headaches, cough, runny nose, hives, irritable bowel, swelling, itching, stomachache, and feeling under the weather.

Hypoallergenic detox can also serve to identify triggers of chronic diseases and autoimmune conditions.

Besides identifying food sensitivities and allergies, hypoallergenic diet also promotes taking a break from foods that cause them.

The need for one such process intensifies if we bear in mind that hectic lifestyle characteristic for London makes it difficult for us to focus on our diet and make significant changes without professional help.

A major aspect of the detoxification programme is education about foods that are associated with allergies and sensitivities in order to revolutionise your nutrition.

NUMEROUS BENEFITS OF BODY DETOXIFICATION

What makes body detoxification so beneficial is its ability to revolutionise your life.

When created by a professional, detox plan can do a lot more than expelling toxins from the body, it helps you kick-start a healthier way of life.

Every person, man or woman, wants to have a healthy and happy lifestyle but they don’t know where to begin.

Detox is a great starting point primarily due to a number of health benefits it provides.

Removal of toxins

The main purpose of a detoxification programme is eliminating toxins that accumulate in your body in order to prevent the damage they could cause.

When potentially harmful chemicals and toxins start building up in your body, it takes a strong detox plan to get them out.

Many of these toxins are retained in the fat cells and intracellular fluid and due to the unhealthy lifestyle, it can be difficult for the liver to flush out these unwanted materials on its own.

A strong detox plan is the best and easiest way to remove toxins in an entirely natural manner.

Prevention of chronic diseases

Toxins play a major role in your health and wellbeing. Evidence shows that exposure to toxic elements such as cadmium, arsenic, lead, and mercury that are typically found in foods, dust, drinking water, fish, dental amalgams, old pesticides, and consumer products has a significant impact on the likelihood of developing chronic conditions[ix].

These toxins can inhibit enzyme functions accumulating in organs like kidney, brain, liver, heart, and even in your bones.

Toxins also affect your immune system. Detoxification process of your body is a great way to prevent chronic diseases affecting these organs.

Healthy weight loss

The rates of overweight and obesity are constantly on the rise and scientists categorise them as a major health concern. That is because overweight and obesity open the door for a number of health conditions.

Human exposure to toxins and chemicals damages the body’s natural weight control mechanisms and contributes to the obesity epidemic[x].

This programme effectively flushes out these toxins also contributes to a successful and healthy weight loss.

To lose weight, you don’t have to starve yourself or use suspicious products, all you need is a healthy lifestyle and a great detox plan.

Improvement of quality of life

The accumulation of toxins and chemicals in your body affects the immune system, depletes energy levels, and makes you less productive. When that happens, you don’t feel like doing anything and even the easiest tasks at work and home seem like a tremendous burden. A great detox plan revitalises your entire body from head to toe, boosts energy, makes you more upbeat. Thanks to successful weight loss and better health, your quality of life significantly increases. It is that simple!

Mental and emotional clarity

Detox can also help if you’re feeling mentally confused, lack mental clarity, or experience problems with memory and concentration. Why? That is because toxins that enter your body also reach your brain and disturb its functioning. The effects of exposure to chemicals and pesticides increase the risk of depression[xi] as well.  Getting rid of these chemicals and toxins allows your brain to function properly and sharpens your mind. As a result, your concentration, memory, and problem-solving abilities will improve too. Not only that, but you can experience relief from depression, anxiety, and other emotional and mental health problems with body detoxification.

CONCLUSION

As seen throughout the post, benefits of carefully designed detoxification programme are numerous.

When performed correctly, detox plans work to eliminate toxins and help manage or prevent a number of diseases and health conditions.

Bearing in mind hectic lifestyle is a common occurrence today, detox serves as a perfect opportunity to improve the overall quality of life, but to experience these benefits it is important to adhere to a customised plan created by a professional.
