In the Second Part of this blog series “Fit, Strong, Flexible and Lean after the age of 45-50“, we’ll briefly discuss body metabolism changes and research based exercise recommendations required to improve and transform our optimum health and body image for those at around 45-50.

These bespoke exercises and nutrition recommendations reduce fat levels naturally and our body weight while building up a lasting foundation to sky-rocket fitness and build peak-performance.

Younger clients usually desire to transform their body image by increasing their muscle mass or through losing weight, getting fit, increasing their endurance, general fitness, and therefore achieving their beach body.

A younger body benefits from a  better metabolism, a more efficient lymphatic, immune, endocrine and cardiovascular system, and generally speaking is less prone to risks and diseases.

On the other hand as we advance in age, our bodies tend to accumulate oxidative stress level and damage at the cellular level therefore after the age of 45-50 our bodies behave differently to a young body that has not yet accumulated so much damage.

What is metabolism ?

Metabolism is the total calories burned to maintain all life processes including breathing, digestion, physical activity and even blood circulation.  When we cross the 40 years old barrier our metabolism slows down and our body changes. These negative changes affect men faster (men usually after 40 years old and women after they are 50).

Metabolism is made up and largely determined of three large sections:

  • Our resting metabolic rate.
  • The amounts of energy required to process foods
  • Our physical activity levels

How our metabolism changes over the years:

  • Body loses about 1/2 a pound of lean muscle each year
  • Body’s organs like brain, liver, kidney, spleen and heart use less calories
  • Nutritional caloric intakes and requirements decreases
  • Cells become more inefficient therefore you gain more body fat easily
  • Compression of spinal discs, bones and joins
  • 1-2 inches lost in height by the age of 75-80.

The negative changes we’ll start to experience due to aging at the very physical level will continue adding more of the same affecting our the nervous system.

Fig 1.  Few changes at the nervous systemrelated to metabolism and aging, – however many changes could be slowed down or even reversed (up to a point).

However as harsh as this may sound there is hope because a personal trainer London fitness expert and a nutritionist in London can work closely with you for 6-20  weeks providing you with a very tailored personal training London based programme which will help you slow down the clock and even reverse these negative changes.

Bespoke training lasting in between 6 to 20 weeks containing a very tailored personal training London based programme and integrated optimum  nutrition helps you to slow down the clock significantly and even reverse some of these negative changes.
